DCL100: Celebrating 100 Years of Deep Creek Lake

DCL 100 Celebrates The Anniversary of Deep Creek Lake

If you visit Deep Creek Lake this year, you’ll likely see signs and information about DCL 100 – the Anniversary of Deep Creek Lake.  In 1923, The Youghiogheny Hydro-Electric Corporation started building a project to create a hydro-electric dam, which would eventually become Deep Creek Lake.   By May 1925, Deep Creek Lake officially came into being. This historic project changed the landscape and destiny of the westernmost county of Maryland.  For a century, this lake has shaped the identity of Garrett County.

Throughout 2025, a series of events and projects will mark the 100th anniversary of Deep Creek Lake.

Honoring the Past, Protecting the Future: The DCL100 Committee

Behind this celebration is the dedicated DCL100 Committee. Formed in December 2023 by the Property Owners’ Association of Deep Creek Lake, this committee is a collaborative effort, bringing together representatives from over 10 organizations with a shared interest in the lake’s well-being. The committee is committed to honoring the history and heritage of Deep Creek Lake’s first 100 years. This celebration involves researching the lake’s past, sharing stories, and ensuring its legacy is preserved for future generations.
